West Brom set to beat Newcastle to Liverpool outcast Sturridge

West Brom have reached an agreement in principle with Liverpool for the loan signing of Daniel Sturridge and the striker is poised to undergo his medical with the club, reports The Sun.

The 28-year-old has been pushing to leave Liverpool all month in a bid to salvage any hopes of representing England in the 2018 World Cup.

Sturridge feared being priced out of a month after Jurgen Klopp’s side slapped a valuation in excess of £20m on his head but West Brom appear to have won the race for his signature.

Newcastle emerged as the frontrunners to sign him earlier on Monday but West Brom have managed to steal in and agree a deal from right under their noses.

Sturridge, who was born in Birmingham, is yet to agree personal terms with Alan Pardew’s side and it would be a major coup if the Baggies can pull this deal off.

The England striker has missed Liverpool’s last 11 matches and has even dropped below Danny Ings in the pecking order under Klopp.

Sturridge has managed to play a direct hand in six goals in 514 minutes of action across league and European competition this season.
