Manchester United join pursuit for Chelsea teenager

Manchester United are one of several Premier League teams interested in signing Chelsea teenager Reece James this summer, claims The Sun.

James has returned to Chelsea following a highly productive loan spell with Wigan in the Championship but his future at Stamford Bridge is unclear.

Some of Chelsea’s academy graduates could be set for game time with the first-team next season if the Blues fail to temporarily lift a FIFA-imposed transfer ban.

Tammy Abraham, who took the Championship by storm for Aston Villa this season, is already targeting a place in Maurizio Sarri’s first-team plans next term.

James’ ambition will also be to break into the Chelsea first-team but he is not short of suitors should he be allowed to leave.

Brighton and Leicester have already been linked with a move for the £15m-rated full-back and now United have joined the pursuit.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants United to move away from signing big name players and hoover up the best young talent on the continent.

James finished the season as Wigan’s highest WhoScored rated player in the Championship (7.10) and played a direct hand in six goals despite spending most of the season at right-back (three goals, three assists).

The England Under-20 international also racked up the most minutes of any Wigan player in the Championship this term (3,972).
