Premier League midfielder wants to join Tottenham over Manchester City
Jose Mourinho has received a welcome boost ahead of the summer transfer window with Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg keen on a move to Tottenham, reports the London Evening Standard.
Hojbjerg has been earmarked as a top transfer target by cash-strapped Tottenham, as Mourinho looks to bolster his midfield options for the 2020/21 campaign.
The 24-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal and Southampton are reluctantly going to accept a cut-price deal for their former captain.
Mourinho has been warned there will be little money to spend this summer following the financial impact of COVID-19 and is now looking at loan signings, free transfers and players entering the final year of their contracts.
Hojbjerg has been superb for Southampton this summer, though was recently stripped of the captain's armband after making it clear he didn't want to pledge his long-term future to the club.
Ajax and Manchester City are reportedly also monitoring Hojbjerg's future but the Denmark international has snubbed the idea of a potential reunion with Pep Guardiola and wants to join Tottenham.
Hojbjerg has won possession in the middle third more times than any other player in the Premier League this season (175).
