Everton sign Fulham goalkeeper

Everton have announced they have signed Fulham goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg for an undisclosed fee.

The former Netherlands international is Ronald Koeman's first signing as Everton manager and has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Toffees.

Stekelenburg, 33, spent last season on loan at Southampton with Koeman and the Dutch manager is looking to reunite with the goalkeeper for a third time, having previously worked together at Ajax.

"I'm very happy - things have moved very fast over the last couple days," Stekelenburg told Everton TV

"He [Koeman] has come to Everton and he called me a few days after asking if I was willing to follow him. It wasn't difficult to make that choice.

"He's one of the best coaches - he's straight talking, he's fair and he has confidence in me which counts as well."

Of goalkeepers that made at least 10 appearances in the Premier League last season, Stekelenburg had the worst success rate (58.5%).
