Arsenal club-record signing Mesut Ozil says he needs to score more goals if he wants to usurp Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the world’s best player.
Ozil, who joined Arsenal for a club-record £42.5m in 2013, only managed to score five goals in 32 games for the north London outfi last season.
“I have to become more dangerous in front of the goal,” he is quoted as saying by Eurosport.
“I was injured for long spells last season, and scored only five in 32 competitive games. I want to improve this. To achieve it, I have to be a bit more egotistical.”
The Germany international has built a reputation for providing goals, rather than scoring them, so it would take a big shift in his style in order to achieve his goal. In fact, since joining Arsenal in 2013, only five players have made more assists than Ozil (15) in the Premier League.
