Paris Saint-Germain defender injured until 2018

Paris Saint-Germain left-back Layvin Kurzawa has undergone back surgery, the Ligue 1 champions have announced.

Kurzawa has not featured for Thomas Tuchel’s side this season and there are reports claiming the 26-year-old could even miss the remainder of 2018.

“Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa underwent surgery on a lumbar herniated disc on Wednesday 12 September,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

“The surgery was successfully conducted by Professor Pascal-Mousselard from the orthopaedic department of the Pitie-Salpetriere Hospital.

The France international is deemed surplus to requirements by the new PSG head coach but the French giants failed to shift the defender in the summer.

Tuchel made overhauling the club’s left-back options a priority in the summer and sent Yuri Berchiche back to Spain as part of the process.

PSG wanted to sign Atletico Madrid ace Filipe Luis but ended up prising Juan Bernat away from Bayern Munich at the end of the window.

Kurzawa became the first defender in Champions League history to score a hat-trick last season, netting more goals in Europe than in 20 Ligue 1 appearances (2).
