Southampton will move for Hull manager Marco Silva if they decide to sack Claude Puel at the end of the season, reports The Daily Mail.
Puel’s job at Southampton has come under pressure in recent weeks despite leading the club to an EFL Cup final in his first season at the club.
Southampton pride themselves on progress and the south coast outfit can no longer match their points tally from last season as they languish 22 points off Ronald Koeman’s last season at the club with five points remaining.
It now seems that Puel will need to finish the season strongly to convince the club he deserves a second season but with games against Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United to come it would seem unlikely.
As a result Southampton are considering their options and are weighing up a move for Silva, who has enhanced his reputation massively since becoming Hull manager in January.
Silva, who has been dubbed the next Mourinho, is out of contract at the end of the season and is unlikely to remain at Hull even if he manages to secure their Premier League status.
Southampton won’t be the only club interested in Silva’s services with Watford and West Ham reportedly also considering a managerial change at the end of the season with the 39-year-old in mind.
Silva hasn’t lost a home league game since March 2014, echoing a similar unbeaten record of the manager he is touted to become, Jose Mourinho.
