Stoke tie down Shawcross to four-year deal

Ryan Shawcross has today penned a new four-year deal at Stoke City, the club has announced.

The 23-year-old has started all three of the Potters’ Premier League matches this season and is their highest rated player with a WhoScored rating of 7.31.

“Ryan Shawcross has today signed a new long-term contract with Stoke City, committing him to the Potters for at least another four years,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

“The central defender, who earlier this month celebrated the 10th anniversary of his arrival at the bet365 Stadium, put pen to paper on his new deal this morning shortly before training with his City teammates.

Shawcross helped the Club gain promotion to the Premier League in 2008 and has been a linchpin in their top-flight progress.

“The England international has made more than 360 league and cup appearances for the Potters and has worn the captain’s armband for the past seven years.”

Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes said of the centre-back’s new deal: “It has been a busy summer for us in the transfer market, and we’re delighted with the signings we’ve made. The renewal of Ryan’s contract, however, is as significant as any new signing we have made.

“It’s unusual in this day and age for a player to spend so long at one club. Ryan has become synonymous with the progress the Club has made over the past decade and we’re delighted he has committed to at least another four years with us.”
