Manchester City to continue summer spending spree

Manchester City will continue their summer spending spree with the signings of Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker from Tottenham, reports the Independent.

City confirmed their first major summer arrival on Friday with the capture of Portugal international Bernardo Silva from Monaco, but Pep Guardiola will not stop there to bolster his squad.

Having released Pablo Zabaleta, who on Friday signed for West Ham, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy, City are light on full-back options, with Mendy and Walker identified as potential arrivals.

Mendy excelled for Monaco this season and Guardiola is keen to bring the Frenchman to the Etihad Stadium, which would see City spend over £100m on players from the Ligue 1 side.

Walker, meanwhile, has thrived for Tottenham in recent seasons, yet is believed to have had a falling out with manager Mauricio Pochettino and the club over playing time and wages.

Walker, 26, is currently with the Spurs squad for their pre-season tour of the Far East, but has his heart set on a move to City, who will need to pay upwards of £40m to secure the services of the England international.
