AC Milan have won the race to sign sought after Atalanta midfielder Franck Kessie, reports Sky Italia, via Football Italia.
Kessie, 20, has been heavily linked with a move away from Atalanta this season after enjoying a fine breakthrough campaign for Serie A’s surprise package.
Chelsea and Manchester United were reportedly chasing his signature in January but their interest has faded since the winter transfer window and it was widely expected the Ivory Coast international, who has been dubbed the next Yaya Toure, would join Roma at the end of the season.
However, that deal now appears to be off the table after Milan came in with a bigger contract offer for the powerful box-to-box midfielder. Not only that, but new Roma director of football Monchi is now already looking at alternatives for his side.
Kessie has weighed in with six goals and three assists in Serie A this season but will need to learn to curb his temperament having been sent off twice this season. In fact, only three players have been sent off more times than Kessie in Serie A this term (2).
