Arsenal increase offer for Alexandre Lacazette

Arsenal have edged closer to the signature of top transfer target Alexandre Lacazette after increasing their offer for the Lyon star, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Arsene Wenger has earmarked Lacazette as a top transfer target this summer as he looks to revamp his offensive options and the Gunners are now just €4m (£3.5m) apart from Lyon’s €67m (£58.9m) asking asking.

Lyon president Jean-Michael Aulas suggested only this week that Lacazette would stay at the club for next season after his proposed move to Atletico Madrid collapsed but Arsenal haven’t given up home of signing the France international.

The Ligue 1 giants are holding out for the €67m that Atletico were willing to pay before their transfer ban was upheld, and it is now being reported that Lyon could even accept Arsenal’s current offer after the Gunners made such an improvement on their initial €40m offer that was rejected.

Arsenal appear to have given up hope of signing Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe, but Lacazette’s arrival will only force Olivier Giroud closer to the exit door with Lyon and West Ham interested in the 30-year-old.

Since August 2013, Lacazette has scored more goals than any other Ligue 1 player (91) and finished last season as the top rated player in France’s top-flight (7.57).
