Manchester United prepared to sell Lukaku this summer

Manchester United are prepared to sell Romelu Lukaku this summer in order to fund their summer rebuild, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s honeymoon period at United is well and truly over after a run of four defeats in six matches and the scale of the job at hand has become abundantly clear.

United are planning another mass overhaul at the end of the season and there are expected to be several casualties, as Solskjaer looks to mix things up for the next campaign.

Star players like Ander Herrera, David De Gea, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba have all been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford but United want to keep them.

One player that could be on his way out is Lukaku, however. The Belgium international has dropped down the pecking order since Solskjaer’s arrival and has generally divided opinion among supporters during his time at the club.

Lukaku’s agent recently hinted at a summer exit and the former Chelsea striker is reportedly open to a move abroad where he has a better chance of picking up silverware.

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are both on the market for long-term successors to Edinson Cavani and Robert Lewandowski, respectively, and are reportedly keen on Lukaku.

United signed Lukaku from Everton for an initial £75m in the summer of 2017 but the 25-year-old has not come close to repaying that fee.

Lukaku has scored 28 goals in 63 league appearances for United and has not reached 20 goals in a league campaign in either season for the Red Devils.
