Chelsea midfielder poised to seal Monaco move

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is expected to join Monaco this month, claims French outlet L’Equipe.

Fabregas has entered the final six months of his current Chelsea deal and is keen to leave after growing frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities.

The 31-year-old has reportedly received a lucrative offer from Monaco and is excited by the prospect of playing under former team-mate Thierry Henry.

Fabregas and Henry were part of the same Arsenal team for four years until the latter left to join Barcelona in 2007.

Henry has taken his first steps into football management this season after taking over at Monaco in October.

Monaco have endured a nightmare season and are keen to bolster their injury-hit squad with experience in the January transfer window.

Fabregas is expected to play in Chelsea’s FA Cup third-round tie at home to Nottingham Forest this weekend, in what will prove his final appearance for the club.

The former Spain international has only started one Premier League game this season, making just four more appearances from the bench.

Fabregas started four of Chelsea’s six Europa League group games, with only Jose Canas (110.7) averaging more passes per game than Fabregas (110.4) in the competition.
