Arsenal finally set to offer Jack Wilshere a new contract
Arsenal are now ready to open contract talks with Jack Wilshere but the midfielder may have to take a pay-cut, claims The Daily Mirror.
Wilshere’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season but the 26-year-old is desperate to prolong his stay at the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger challenged Wilshere to prove his fitness over a sustained run in order to win a new contract and the England international has managed that.
Wilshere has started Arsenal’s last six Premier League matches and even scored his first league goal in more than three-and-a-half-years in their 2-2 draw with Chelsea last week.
The Gunners are now finally prepared to offer Wilshere a new contract but Wilshere will reportedly have to take a pay-cut on his current £120,000-a-week basic salary.
Wilshere, however, will have the chance to make more than that due to the terms planned for his new deal, but that will all depend on regular playing time.
Arsenal are unbeaten in the Premier League with Wilshere in the starting XI this season but they have only won two of those six matches.
