Germany international a doubt for the Euros

Germany head coach Joachim Low is sweating on the fitness of Wolfsburg star Julian Draxler for the Euros in the summer.

Draxler, 22, limped off midway through the first half of their 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday and now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a muscle tear in his left thigh.

The Wolfsburg No.10 was unplayable at times during the first-leg against Madrid and had been tipped to start for Germany at the Euros in the summer in some quarters.

Draxler, who has taken his time to fill the void left by Kevin De Bruyne at Wolfsburg this season, underwent further examinations on his injury on Thursday and Wolfsburg have now announced he faces a long time on the sidelines.

“I am disappointed and it’s a real shame that I can’t help the team right now in looking to achieve our goals for the season,” Draxler told the club’s official website.

“I will now do all in my power to get back into action again as quickly as possible.”

Draxler has played a direct hand in nine Bundesliga goals during his first season at Wolfsburg (five goals, four assists), although previous injuries have limited the German to 20 appearances.
