Stoke ace pens new deal

Stoke City have announced Jack Butland has put pen to paper on a new five-and-a-half-year deal keeping him at the club until 2021.

Butland, 23, has been the standout performer for the Potters this season and his heroics between the sticks have ensured Mark Hughes side were never in danger during their struggles at the start of the season.

The Stoke No.1 has now established himself as a regular in Roy Hodgson’s England squad and this new deal is likely to ward off interest from potential admirers in the summer.

“We are naturally delighted that a player of Jack’s quality has signed a long-term contract,” Stoke’s chief executive Tony Scholes told the club’s official website.

“We’ve always held Jack in the very highest regard but he has exceed even our expectations since Mark selected him as our first choice goalkeeper.

“As a club we feel it’s important that we tie down our talented young players on lengthy contracts and Jack’s new deal is a fitting reward for his progress this season."
