Liverpool striker Danny Ings has suffered another knee injury and is now set to miss the remainder of the season, reports The Daily Mail.
Ings, 24, has only just returned to full fitness from an anterior cruciate ligament injury that forced out of action for most of his debut campaign at Anfield last season.
The former Burnley striker jolted his knee in a challenge after coming on as a substitute during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Tottenham in the League Cup last week and spent the rest of the week under the careful watch of the team’s medical department.
After the injury showed no sign of healing Ings was then sent for more checks where it was discovered he had suffered cartilage damage that could only be fixed with surgery.
The early prognosis has not put a timescale on Ings’ rehabilitation period but it is understood to be similar to the injury Danny Welbeck suffered for Arsenal against Manchester City in May.
Since joining Liverpool on a free transfer from Burnley in 2015, Ings has scored two league goals in 340 minutes of action.
