Wenger rejects contract extension claims

Arsene Wenger has rejected claims he is on the verge of signing a new two-year contract extension keeping him at Arsenal until 2019.

Reports had emerged on Friday morning suggesting the Frenchman was on course to be handed a new contract by Arsenal, which send Gunners fans into a frenzy on social media.

The Arsenal faithful have grown increasingly frustrated with their long-term manager after another failed campaign that has seen them fail to win the Premier League when this season was begging for them to win it.

However, Wenger insists the suggestions he will sign an extension are completely false, saying: “That’s completely wrong. I don’t know where this information comes from.”

“You can treat that as just an invention and no more. It’s absolutely false. I would like the press to check this information with myself or the club before they give it out. We both would have denied it.”

Since the start of the year Arsenal’s form would only have been good enough to just seal a place in the top 10, having won just seven of 18 games.
