Tottenham dealt blow in pursuit in Malcom

New Bordeaux manager Gus Poyet insists Tottenham target Malcom will not leave the French side this month.

Malcom has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League after enjoying an impressive first half of the season.

Tottenham are currently the favourites to sign the Brazilian but the 20-year-old has previously been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and Arsenal.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will have to wait until the summer at the very earliest before signing Malcom as new Bordeaux manager Poyet insists he is going no where.

“I asked straight away if Malcom would be staying or not,” Poyet told L’Equipe, via The Daily Telegraph. “They said yes. I said OK, now we can continue this discussion.”

After making a bright start to the season, Bordeaux’s form has fallen off a cliff in the last few months and they are now only four points above the bottom three.

Unsurprisingly, Malcom’s performances have also dipped in that time and he has only managed to score twice in his last 13 outings.

Nevertheless, an output of seven goals and five assists is still his best return since moving to Europe from Corinthians in 2015.
