Liverpool star set for improved contract

Liverpool want to reward Sadio Mane with a bumper new deal, reports The Daily Mirror.

Mane’s current contract is not due to expire until 2021 but Jurgen Klopp’s side want to reaffirm his importance by improving his existing terms.

The Reds are determined to tie down their best players to longer contracts following Philippe Coutinho’s £143m departure in January.

Mane has struggled to rediscover his best form this season and some of that has been attributed to Mohamed Salah’s arrival in the summer.

The Senegal international has refuted any problems with Salah and will now hope to have turned a corner this season after netting a hat-trick against Porto in the first leg of Liverpool’s round of 16 Champions League fixture on Wednesday.

Mane currently earns around £80,000-a-week but Klopp’s side are willing to double his money in order to align him with the club’s best paid players.

The 25-year-old has scored as many goals in five Champions League appearances this season than in 19 Premier League matches (6).

Not only that, but only Neymar (9.11) has a higher WhoScored ratings than Mane (8.49) in UEFA’s elite competition.
