Roma sign Arsenal flop

Roma have announced the arrival of Arsenal winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a season-long loan deal without an option to buy.

Mkhitaryan has spent the last 18 months at Arsenal following his move from Manchester United but has failed to make any real impact at the club.

The Armenia international has dropped down the pecking order at Arsenal since Unai Emery’s arrival and has now been offloaded on deadline day of the European transfer window.

Mkhitaryan came off the bench in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday in what the club hope will be his last appearance for the club.

The 30-year-old will reunite with former United team-mate Chris Smalling, who has also joined Roma on loan this season.

Mkhitaryan played a direct hand in 16 goals in 39 Premier League appearances for Arsenal (eight goals, eight assists).
