Real Madrid want Spain U21 international

Real Madrid want to sign Athletic Club goalkeeper Kepa next summer when his contract expires, reports Marca.

The reigning European champions were heavily linked with a move for Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea over the summer before Zinedine Zidane ended their pursuit.

Madrid have a long-term interest in Kepa and hope to prise the 22-year-old away from Athletic Club at the end of the season.

Kepa, who has a €10m (£8.9m) release clause, has entered the final year of his existing deal and is yet to agree terms to a new contract after 10 months of talks with Athletic Club.

Jose Angel Ziganda’s side want to increase Kepa’s release clause to €65m (£57.6m), which would mean the Spain U21 international has the highest clause in the squad.

Kepa has made a solid start to the new season, only conceding one goal in three league appearances.

After earning the WhoScored Man of the Match away to Eibar, only Nantes goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu (7.52) has a higher WhoScored rating than Kepa (7.39) of all goalkeepers in Europe’s top 5 leagues (3+ apps).
