Arsenal could rival Liverpool for Hoffenheim midfielder Kerem Demirbay this summer, claims the London Evening Standard.
New Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat will lead the club’s recruitment drive in the summer and is eyeing a raid on the Bundesliga.
Mislintat, previously of Borussia Dortmund, has an extensive knowledge of German football and has added Demirbay to the list of Arsenal's transfer targets.
The 27-year-old has struggled with injuries this season that has limited him to just 12 league starts, but he was one of the best players in the Bundesliga during the 2016/17 campaign.
However, Arsenal can expect to face competition from Liverpool for his signature, as Jurgen Klopp’s side have been heavily linked with a move for midfielder already this season.
The Gunners may be forced to sign a new central midfielder at the end of the season with Jack Wilshere on course to leave for nothing when his contract expires.
Demirbay finished last season as the seventh highest WhoScored rated player in the Bundesliga (7.49) after playing a direct hand in 14 goals, winning the WhoScored Man of the Match award on six occasions.
With this in mind, Demirbay may be worth adding to your Football INDEX portfolios, as his share price is only £0.77. Media speculation will only drive that price up.
