Arsenal to make star first £200,000-a-week player

Arsenal are ready to make Mesut Ozil the first £200,000-a-week player as they look to secure his long-term future amid speculation linking their creator-in-chief with a move away from the Emirates, claims The Daily Mail.

Ozil, 27, has been heavily linked with a move away from the club after insisting he is in no rush to sign a new contract with just two years remaining on his existing terms.

The Germany international enjoyed a sensational start to the season and although his performances have tailed off this year he still remains Arsenal’s best player.

Arsenal are keen to secure the long-term services of Ozil and Alexis Sanchez and they are even prepared to make the former Real Madrid forward the highest ever paid player at the club to tempt him into committing his future.

Ozil has registered at least five more assists than any other player in the Premier League this season (18) and he needs to directly set up three goals against Aston Villa on the final day of the season to break Thierry Henry’s record for most assists in a league campaign (20).
