Manchester United veteran wants shock two-year deal

Manchester United full-back Ashley Young wants to put pen to paper on a new two-year contract to continue at Old Trafford until he is 35, claims The Daily Mirror.

Young has spent the last seven years at United after joining from Aston Villa in 2011 and has emerged as a key player under Jose Mourinho.

United triggered a 12-month contract extension in Young’s deal back in March to secure his services for another season.

The England international deal will expire next summer but Young wants to extend his stay by a further two seasons and see out 10 years as a United player.

Young has regularly captained United during Mourinho’s tenure but it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will sanction a new deal for the veteran.

Mourinho is desperate to overhaul the club’s defensive options and that would almost certainly come at a detriment to Young’s chances of first-team football.

Since the start of last season, United have won 71.4% of their Premier League matches when Young has not started compared to 57.6% when he has featured from the off.
