Palace make staggering club-record bid for new frontman

Crystal Palace have made a club-transfer record £31.5m bid in an attempt to persuade Liverpool to sell Christian Benteke this summer, reports The Guardian.

Benteke, 25, has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool after dropping down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp and has previously been linked with a move to West Ham.

However, having missed out on Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi, Palace have turned all of their attentions to signing Benteke and hope their initial £27m offer, which could rise to as much as £31.5m, will be enough to sign the Belgium international.

The former Aston Villa striker only joined Liverpool last summer but has failed to establish himself and doesn’t appear to feature in Klopp’s long-term plans following the arrival of Sadio Mane for £30m.

Benteke only scored nine goals in the league last season, which was the first time he has failed to hit double figures in any of his four seasons in England.
