West Ham midfielder close to new deal

Cheikhou Kouyate is on the verge of agreeing a new four-year deal with West Ham, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 26-year-old still has the best part of two years left to run on the original four-year deal he penned when he joined West Ham in 2014, but the Hammers are keen to get the powerful midfielder to commit his future to ward off any interest in the summer.

Reports had emerged suggesting rivals Tottenham had failed with a £15m bid for Kouyate in the summer, but the Senegal international is expected to put pen to paper on the new deal later this month.

It would be another significant step forward for Slaven Bilic’s side, who also confirmed star midfielder Dimitri Payet had signed a new long-term contract earlier this week.

Despite it not being his main job in the team, only Payet (6) has scored more goals than Kouyate (4) for West Ham in the Premier League this season.
