Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has revealed Dwight Gayle has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal keeping him at the club until 2019.
Gayle, 25, has been regularly linked with a move away from Selhurst Park in the past two transfer windows after struggling to establish himself as a first-team regular.
The former Peterborough striker rejected a move to Bristol City last summer and it appeared his future was almost certainly away from Palace. However, much has changed and the English forward has now agreed to extend his stay at the club.
“I believe that contract is agreed,” Pardew is quoted as saying by The Guardian. “If it’s not signed, I’m not 100% sure, but he’s a player who scores goals and we’ve missed him for long periods this season.
“All of our strikers have been out for too long: we’ve never had a continuous run with one of them, and that’s probably one of the reasons the goals tally next to their names doesn’t really reflect their ability.”
Gayle has only made five starts in the Premier League this season with a further seven appearances coming from the substitutes’ bench. He did manage to get his first league goal of the campaign in the 2-2 draw with West Ham at the start of April and started in their 1-0 win over Norwich last week, which was their first league win of 2016.
