Barcelona close in on new €27m-rated left-back

Barcelona are growing closer to a deal to sign Real Betis left-back Junior Firpo, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Ernesto Valverde wants to sign a new left-back this summer to help provide competition for places with Jordi Alba.

Barcelona were linked with a surprise move for Filipe Luis but the former Atletico Madrid ace joined Brazilian outfit Flamengo on Tuesday.

The LaLiga champions are now in advanced talks to sign Firpo from Betis following his thoroughly impressive performances last season.

Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the 22-year-old following Alberto Moreno’s departure from the club at the start of the month.

However, it has now emerged that Barcelona are the clear frontrunners for the former Spain Under-21 international and are expected to close a deal for €27m (£24.1m).

Firpo, who can play at left-back and left wing-back, made 24 league appearances for Betis last season and chipped in with three goals and four assists for the LaLiga outfit.
