Palermo make ninth managerial change of the season

Palermo have made their ninth managerial change of the season after sacking Walter Novellino after just four games in charge.

The 62-year-old oversaw three defeats in his four matches in charge and Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Lazio was the last straw for erratic owner Maurizio Zamparini.

Novellino has since confirmed his departure meaning Palermo have now changed their manager on a staggering nine occasions this season, with Davide Ballardini expected to return for his second stint in charge having only lasted a month before being sacked himself in January.

“I can confirm that I’ve been relieved of my duties,” Novellino told Calciomercato.it, via ESPN. “I can only say that I’m very sad and disappointed. I’d like to thank the lads, the fans and the management.”

No wins in their last 11 league matches has seen Palermo slip inside the bottom three on goal differential and their ninth managerial change means they have made more changes to the head coach than they have had wins this season (7).
