Chelsea make shock enquiry for West Ham striker

Chelsea have made a shock enquiry for West Ham striker Andy Carroll, reports The Daily Mail.

Antonio Conte is determined to sign another striker this month in order to ease the goalscoring burden on Alvaro Morata.

The Chelsea manager missed out on a reunion with Fernando Llorente in the summer and has now turned his attention to signing Carroll on loan for the rest of the season.

Chelsea are on the verge of wrapping up Ross Barkley’s signature and Conte’s pursuit of Carroll does not make good reading for Michy Batshuayi.

West Ham manager David Moyes insisted after Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham that he had no knowledge of Chelsea’s interest in Carroll.

The West Ham No.9 has endured an injury-hit career but he is unplayable when he is firing on all cylinders. Ensuring he is fully fit is another problem, however.

Carroll has only started seven games this season and netted his first two goals of the season in their 2-1 win over West Brom on Tuesday.
