Atletico Madrid have announced star goalkeeper Jan Oblak has put pen to paper on a fresh four-year deal running until the summer of 2023.
Oblak’s previous deal included an £87m release clause and he was touted as a potential replacement for David de Gea at Manchester United.
The 26-year-old is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and Atletico are understood to have increased his release clause under the terms in his new contract.
“I’m very happy to have signed a contract extension and to be here. I’m going to defend these colours to the best of my abilities and continue working hard,” Oblak told the club’s official website.

Diego Simeone extended his future at Atletico in February and it is understood one of his demands was the club securing Oblak’s long-term future.
Atletico have housed some of the best young goalkeepers in the world in recent years, with De Gea and Thibaut Courtois all learning their trade at the club before going on to superstardom.
Oblak is certainly on par with those names and securing his long-term future is a huge boost for Atletico.
