Manchester United earmark Lukaku replacement

Manchester United will pursue Sevilla striker Wissam Ben Yedder if Romelu Lukaku joins Inter this summer, claims ABC Sevilla.

Lukaku’s agent has confirmed the United striker is dreaming of a move to Inter, though the Serie A giants are struggling to raise the money required to pull off a deal.

The Belgium international has spent the last two years at United after the Red Devils paid Everton £75m for his services and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is open to his departure.

Selling Lukaku is not a priority for United but they will sanction his sale if they recoup their initial investment, which Inter are currently unable to match.

Inter need to sell Mauro Icardi first in order to afford Lukaku and are struggling to find any suitors for the 26-year-old, who comes with plenty of baggage.

While United do not expect anything to change in the near future, Solskjaer has earmarked Ben Yedder as a potential replacement for Lukaku.

The 28-year-old confirmed earlier this month he wants to play for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and he has just a €40m (£35.8m) release clause in his current Sevilla deal.

Ben Yedder has spent the last three seasons at Sevilla after joining the Spanish side from Toulouse in 2016.

The France international was not an immediate hit at Sevilla but last season enjoyed his best ever campaign in front of goal in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

Ben Yedder scored 18 goals and provided nine assists in 35 league appearances, garnering a WhoScored rating of 7.23 in LaLiga as a result. In fact, Ben Yedder has reached double figures for goals in six of his last seven league campaigns.
