Aston Villa confirm departure of goalkeeper

Aston Villa have confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland by mutual consent.

The 30-year-old joined Villa from Ingolstadt in 2018 and made 23 league starts to help secure their Premier League return in 2019.

However, Nyland struggled for game time in the Premier League and the capture of Emiliano Martinez meant his days at Villa Park were numbered.

"Aston Villa can confirm that Ørjan Nyland has left the club after agreeing a mutual termination of his contract," a statement read on the club's official website.

"The Norwegian goalkeeper signed in August 2018 from Ingolstadt and would go on to make 36 appearances in all competitions for the club.

"Last season, his displays helped Villa reach the Carabao Cup final, where he was handed a starting berth at Wembley against Manchester City.

"This term, he made just one appearance, in the Carabao Cup against Burton Albion.

"Aston Villa would like to thank Ørjan for his service to the club and wish him all the best for the future."
