Palace consider audacious move for Chelsea defender

Crystal Palace are weighing up a surprise move for Chelsea outcast Branislav Ivanovic, according to The Daily Mirror.

Ivanovic, 32, is out of contract at the end of the season and isn’t expected to be offered an extension after dropping down the pecking under Antonio Conte in the last month.

The Serbia international has only played for three minutes since Chelsea were thrashed 3-0 by Arsenal at the end of September and Palace are now monitoring the situation with a view to making a move for the experienced defender.

Chelsea have reverted to a back three since defeat against the Gunners and have won each of the resulting four matches, keeping a clean sheet in each of those. Conte has instead opted to play Victor Moses on the right side of their back five and the 25-year-old has thrived in his absence.

In Ivanovic’s last 239 Premier League appearances he has only committed two errors that have directly led to a goal.
