Liverpool are pondering a move for Roma’s Brazilian left-back Emerson following his recovery from injury, reports the Daily Mail.
The Reds have conceded 16 goals in the opening nine games of the season and Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his backline to stem the flow of goals.
Klopp’s side sit just inside the top half of the table and the first port of call in January is defence as the German looks to improve Liverpool’s chances of a top-4 finish.
Liverpool are expected to sign a centre-back before too long, but Klopp has identified Emerson as a potential arrival in the New year.
The 23-year-old hasn’t featured for the Rome side since May after sustaining an ACL injury as he continues his recovery from the problem.
Emerson was a key man under Luciano Spalletti last season, making 23 league starts, though the arrival of Aleksandar Kolarov, and his fine form, suggests Roma could be open to offers for the defender in January.
