Everton confirm Rodriguez departure

Everton have announced that James Rodriguez has left the club for Qatari side Al Rayyan.

The Colombian failed to make a competitive appearance for the Toffees this season, with his only action under Rafa Benitez in an Everton shirt coming in their pre-season defeat to Manchester United.

"James Rodriguez has left Everton to sign for Qatari club Al Rayyan for an undisclosed fee," a statement read on Everton's official website.

"The 30-year-old Colombia international moves to the Middle East after 12 months at Goodison Park.

"Having joined from Real Madrid in September 2020, James made 26 appearances in all competitions for Everton last season, scoring six goals."

Everton confirm Rodriguez departure

Carlo Ancelotti's departure for Real Madrid over the summer seemed to spell the end of Rodriguez's time at Goodison Park, with the pair enjoying a fruitful relationship in the past for Los Blancos, Bayern Munich and then Everton.

Rodriguez earned a WhoScored rating of 7.21 for Everton in the Premier League last season as he started 21 times for the Merseyside outfit.
