Manchester United pull out of race for Leicester defender Maguire
Manchester United have withdrawn their interest in Leicester defender Harry Maguire after being quoted £100m for his signature, claims The Daily Mirror.
United have been heavily linked with a move for Maguire for the last 12 months, as they desperately sound out a world class centre-back.
Maguire will be allowed to leave Leicester this summer if the right offer is made but faces the prospect of being priced out a move away.
United are willing to break the bank to land an elite centre-back but have ruled themselves out of the running for the England international.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side value Maguire in the region of £65m and are not prepared to match Leicester’s stunning asking price.
It means that Manchester City now have a clear run at signing Maguire this summer, though it’s unlikely Pep Guardiola will sanction a £100m move for the 26-year-old.
Guardiola is on the market for a new centre-back to replace Vincent Kompany and has earmarked Maguire as his top target.
Of players that contested at least 30 aerial duels in the Premier League last season, Maguire and the best success rate (77.6%).
