Unhappy Schalke forward confirms summer exit

Veteran striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has confirmed he will leave Schalke at the end of the season but insists his next move will not be to China or Turkey.

Huntelaar, 33, has spent the last seven years at Schalke but has dropped down the pecking order this season and has grown frustrated with his role at the club.

The former Netherlands international has even dropped below Guido Burgstaller in the pecking order for places up front, whom they signed from Bundesliga II side Nuemberg in January and now Huntelaar has confirmed he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

“I am not satisfied with the way things are going at Schalke right now. I have an expiring contract, so this is my last year here,” he told De Telegraaf, via Goal.com.

“My next move will be a gut decision. I really like playing football, but I have four kids and there are so many fun things to do.

“I am still motivated and I know I can still deliver at the highest level. We will see what happens, what kind of offers come in and then I will make a decision.”

“There is a good chance I will continue to live in Netherlands. I am not moving to some club in the desert, China or Turkey.”

Huntelaar has only started five Bundesliga matches this season and been forced to make a further seven appearances from the bench, scoring just one goal in 534 minutes of action in the process.

Despite limited game time, Huntelaar has still scored at least 53 more goals than any other Schalke player since August 2010 (81).
