Arsenal defender pens contract extension

Arsenal have announced Calum Chambers has put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension ending his stay at the Emirates until 2021.

Chambers has amassed 60 appearances for Arsenal since joining from Middlesbrough in 2014 and the versatile defender quickly earned his first senior international cap with England soon after his arrival.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough and was expected to be farmed out again over the summer, but instead opted to remain at the Emirates.

Chambers’ previous deal was due to expire in 2019 but Arsene Wenger’s side have moved to secure his long-term future to avoid letting him enter the final 12 months.

Since August 2014, Arsenal have won a greater proportion of their Premier League matches without Chambers in the starting XI (58.4%) compared to when he has started (50%).
