Neymar wants return to Brazil

Barcelona ace Neymar has revealed he dreams of returning to Brazil in the future to play for Flamengo.

Neymar made the surprise admission during a charity match honouring Brazilian side Chapecoense, which was organised by Brazil legend Zico.

The 24-year-old spent a decade at Santo  before completing a blockbuster move to the reigning La Liga champions in 2013 and his comments aren’t likely to have gone down well with his former club, with Flamengo, another Rio de Janeiro-based side, considered their rivals.

“If I could, I would like to play for Flamengo, it would be a great honour for me to play at the Maracana. I would be playing there all day. It’s a club I want to play for,” ESPN quote Neymar as saying.

Flamengo finished third in the Brasileirao this season, level on points with Neymar’s former club Santos and a staggering nine points behind champions Palmeiras.

Neymar only signed a new five-year deal in October keeping him at Barcelona until at least 2021, which means any return home isn’t expected to happen until the twilight of his career.

The Barcelona ace has come in for criticism for his performances this season, and even though he has played a direct hand in 10 goals in 13 league appearances thus far, that is still down on 14 goals and seven assists he had at this stage last season.
