Neville won’t resign as Valencia head coach

Gary Neville insists he will not resign as Valencia head coach in the wake of their 7-0 humbling of Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final.

The former Manchester United captain has endured a torturous start to his managerial career in Spain and is still looking for his first league win after eight games.

Neville’s future as Valencia head coach was been suggested to be hinging on success in the Copa del Rey but they are now almost certainly out after being humiliated 7-0 by Barcelona, but he says he will not quit.

“I won’t resign,” AS reports Neville as saying after the match.

“I didn’t like what I saw. The fans didn’t serve this. We have to recover immediately. This is one of my most painful days in football.

“It’s going to be painful three or four days. When you give the ball away 30 yards from your own goal, you get punished.”
