Manchester United target close to signing new contract

Manchester United are on the verge of missing out on top transfer target Ivan Perisic with news the Inter winger is close to signing a new contract with the Italian giants, reports Premium Sport, via Football Italia.

Jose Mourinho identified Perisic as one of four priority signings at the start of the summer but Inter have been adamant the Croatia international will only be able to leave the club if their €55m (£49.6m) valuation is met.

United are keen to avoid being dragged into paying over the odds for players this summer and have so far refused to go as high as Inter’s demands, but could now be set to miss out on the 28-year-old for good.

Talks between the two clubs have gone cold since Perisic joined the rest of his Inter team-mates on their pre-season tour of China midway through July and now the former Borussia Dortmund winger is set to sign a renewal with a significant wage hike.

Of players that scored at least 10 Serie A goals last season, Perisic had the worst conversion rate (10.6%).
