Young rejects Manchester United deal for Inter move

Ashley Young has rejected Manchester United’s offer of a new 12-month deal and wants to join Inter, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Young has entered the final six months of his current United deal and there is no option to extend it for another season.

The former England international is free to discuss a Bosman transfer with foreign clubs and Inter are pursuing his signature.

Antonio Conte is desperate to sign Young this month or on a free transfer at the end of the season and Young is keen on the move.

United have tried to counter the situation by offering Young a new contract but the 34-year-old has his heart set on moving to Italy.

It leaves United in a difficult position, as they can either let Young leave for nothing in the summer or get a small fee for the veteran this month.

Losing Young this month, however, would almost certainly mean United need defensive cover unless Diogo Dalot can quickly get back up to speed following a long spell out injured.

Solskjaer was adamant that United’s priority this month must be to sign new players, not let more leave Old Trafford.

Young would be the third United player Inter have signed this season following the summer arrivals of Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.

Nemanja Matic was also linked with a move to Inter in the build up to January but Solskjaer has confirmed the Serbian will not leave this month following injuries to Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba.

It is understood Conte tried to sign Young in 2017 when he was manager of Chelsea and believes the veteran will be a useful good addition for the second half of the season.

Young was a first-team regular for United up until this season and has since lost his place in the side to Aaron Wan-Bissaka and a fit-again Luke Shaw.

Emerging youth talent Brandon Williams has even leapfrogged the 34-year-old in the pecking order after starting Tuesday's derby defeat to Manchester City.

Young has made 12 league appearances for United this season but is yet to score or register an assist.

Of players that have started at least 10 Premier League games this season, only five pick up a booking more frequently than United's club captain (1 every 190.8 minutes of action).
