Marseille have announced they have terminated Patrice Evra’s contract with immediate effect in the wake of UEFA’s decision to ban him from club competition for the rest of the season.
Evra has been banned for seven months and fined €10,000 (£8,829) after attempting to kick one of his own supporters in the head before Marseille’s Europa League match with Vitoria Guimaraes on November 2.
The former France international was sent off during the warm up before Marseille’s 1-0 defeat to the Portuguese outfit at the start of the month and is no longer able to compete in UEFA club competition until June 2018.
Marseille have since reacted to the news and announced, by mutual agreement, they have terminated the remainder of Evra’s contract, which was due to expire at the end of the season.
The 36-year-old confronted a handful of Marseille supporters prior to their clash against Vitoria Guimaraes after receiving a volley of abuse before chaos erupted, resulting in Evra attempt to kick a fan in the head.
Evra had only made four league appearances for Marseille this season and it remains to be seen what is next for the former Manchester United defender.
