Atletico Madrid express interest in Paris Saint-Germain defender

Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain right-back Thomas Meunier, reports France Football.

Diego Simeone has identified right-back as an area in the team that needs to be addressed following Juanfran’s struggles this season.

Sime Vrsaljko was billed as Juanfran’s long-term replacement when he joined Atletico in 2016 but the Croatia international looks destined to leave in January after failing to settle.

Atletico’s FIFA-imposed transfer ban comes to an end in January and Simeone could even target a move for Meunier in the New Year as the Rojiblancos prepare for the arrival of Diego Costa and Vitolo.

Meunier is not considered automatic first choice at PSG this season following the arrival of Dani Alves in the summer and the Belgium international has already conceded he will have to evaluate his future at the club if that does not change by the start of the next campaign.

The 26-year-old has only started six Ligue 1 matches this season but has weighed in with three goals and one assist in that period.
