Barca Look to the Premier League for a Goalkeeper

Barcelona are preparing for life without Marc Ter Stegen should he decide to leave the club this summer and are weighing up a move for Leicester’s Kasper Schmeichel.

While on international duty he told the German press than he wants to “take the next step and play more because the situation is clear: if nothing changes we’ll be forced to talk.

“At the end of the season I’ll have played around 25 games. That’s not such a small number, but when I return from international duty, I’ll probably be on the bench in the Clàsico against Real Madrid.

“In the long-term, those 25 games aren’t enough for me.”

Barcelona want a top keeper to compete with Claudio Bravo. Schmeichel’s efforts during Leicester’s incredible season have not gone unnoticed by the Catalan side.

According to the Mirror, Barcelona would offer the Danish international a three-year deal, two years with an option to extend should he impress there.

Schmeichel has kept a clean sheet in 10 of his last 15 league appearances, at least 3 more than any other Premier League goalkeeper in the calendar year.

While there is no indication that Schmeichel could be prised away from the Foxes, the keeper is confident that he could play just about anywhere. “I have played internationally where we play a completely different type of game, and that has given me a versatility that can adapt to whatever team I am playing in and whatever style we want to play.”

Leicester continue their title run-in later today at home to Swansea, all the action from the King Power can be followed here.
