Sevilla midfielder denies Arsenal contact

Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi has confirmed he wants to leave the Spanish side in January but insists he has not held talks with Arsenal or any other Premier League club.

N’Zonzi has been left out of Sevilla’s squad for their final Champions League group game on Wednesday and fuelled speculation of a January return to England after arriving in London at the start of the week.

However, the former Stoke midfielder has distanced himself from talk of a January move to Arsenal, revealing he is only in London to visit his son and not to meet with clubs he could potentially join.

“My future is clearly elsewhere than in Sevilla,” he told France Football, via the London Evening Standard. “The only thing that disappoints me is the manner in which this is ending.

“But what bothers me is the way it’s going. It had never been bad with a coach before. I never had that kind of problem.

“I’m indeed in London, but it’s got nothing to do with a transfer or football. I’ve come to see my son who lives here and to spend some time with him. As you can see, it’s not a question of signing for Arsenal or anywhere else.”

The 28-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City at this stage of last season but Pep Guardiola’s side have cooled their interest in the France international since then.

N’Zonzi has developed into one of the best central midfielders in Spain since leaving Stoke to join Sevilla in 2015.

In fact, N’Zonzi has completed the most passes in La Liga since the start of last season (3,157).
