Manchester United hoping to pip rivals to signature of centre-back
Manchester United are looking to pip Manchester City to the signing of Swansea City centre-back Joe Rodon on the advice of former United fan favourite and Wales manager Ryan Giggs, reports The Mirror on Sunday.
Rodon has been a first team regular for the Swans when injury free and his performances in south Wales have attracted interested from Premier League sides.
Indeed, defending Premier League champions City have been courting Rodon for some time now, but they now face competition from rivals United.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to bring in at least one new centre-back this summer, with the Norwegian manager hoping to sell Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo.
Rodon has earned rave reviews when he has featured and now Wales boss Giggs has recommended the 22-year-old to Solskjaer, which could ignite a bidding war between the two Manchester giants.
It was Giggs who implored United to spend big on Daniel James last summer and if they do beat City to Rodon, then United will have paid Swansea around £35m for two of their young stars in the making over the last 12 months.
