Liverpool defender secures £2m switch to Cagliari

Liverpool have announced Ragnar Klavan has completed a £2m transfer to Serie A side Cagliari.

Klavan joined Liverpool from Augsburg in 2016 to provide competition for Jurgen Klopp’s first choice centre-backs.

The 32-year-old dropped to fifth choice in the pecking order over the summer and has now sealed a move to Italy in search of regular playing time.

“Ragnar Klavan has completed a permanent transfer to Serie A side Cagliari,” read a statement on Liverpool’s official website.

“The Estonia international leaves Liverpool after a two-year spell on Merseyside that included 53 appearances and two goals for the club.”

Despite the fact Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip are susceptible to injuries, Klopp has sanctioned Klavan’s departure due to his faith in the young defenders coming through the club’s academy.

During his two years at Anfield, Liverpool had a better win ratio in the league when the veteran did not started (60%) compared to when he featured from the off (51.6%).
